Thanks all for participating in our first poll! We wanted to know who was reading our blog, and the breakdown is as follows:
How you identify: 28% - Graduate student 26% - Post-doc 25% - PI 8% - don't put themselves in a box 6% - none of the above 4% - not in science 3% - Staff Scientist/Research Associate
I don't know about you Dr A, but I'm delighted to see such an even split between grad student/post-doc/PI and other in there too.
Science Bear: that is really great to hear and gives me and I'm sure Dr A too an added impetus to blog. I was talking to a new PI in our building yesterday about the tortuous nature of a PhD and we both agreed it was almost unavoidable. Luckily for her grad student she had spent time explaining these things and is actively encouraging their development of an academic support network because once the initial optimism of a PhD wears off most people need others, if for no other reason that to just see and know it is going to end and end well one day in the not too distant future! I know I did.

Hmm...I wonder what the breakdown is among science bloggers?
The high number of us in the green wedge is just an illustration that this blog helps us see light at the end of a long and tortuous tunnel.
At least that's this bear's take on the results.
Thanks for compiling the results Dr A!

Mad Hatter, good question.
Dr J - yes it is nice to see the even split, I'll admit I was a bit surprised.
Bear - You are not alone, even though it feels like it at times I know! I hope that our flickering light at the end continues to draw you in :)
